Scientists have concluded after a prolonged discussion of the world’s most huge and active volcano – Mauna Loa, the experts are predicting that the volcano can erupt anytime soon as it is sending such seismic wavelets.
Mauna Loa is a huge subaerial volcano located in Hawaii, United States. The volcano last erupted on April 15, 1984.
Hawaii officials and scientific experts continuously warn the residents of the Big Island, Hawaii as reported by US News.
The officials have put the area on high alert after recent spikes in the volcano – Mauna Loa summit.
The officials have even said the locals to be careful as it will not take much time for the lava of the volcano to reach the local area and houses near Mauna Loa.
The residents are continuously getting an education from the officials, to stay away from the volcano otherwise they will not even get time to run with their families from the eruption.
Education camps have been set up by the defense agency of Hawaii. The Big Island residents are taught how to be prepared to be safe if an eruption happens. The locals are prepared to pack their bags with very basic items like water and food and move to a place that is far from the volcano.
The residentials are also asked by the defense agency, to not get panicked and scared but just to be prepared for whatever happens in the future. The Big Island’s locals are also asked to keep a watch on the volcano to track if it is turning red or not.
Talmadge Magno is the administrator of the civil defense agency of Hawaii and according to him the volcano, Mauna Loa resides in the larger part of the Big Island. The volcano covers 51% of the island and the residents are too close to be safe from the eruption if it occurs.
Magno also says there is a high possibility of lava eruption from Mauna Loa right now after it occurred in 1984. It can be a big disaster that calls for an emergency he added.
The population has increased on Big Island as more people have started residing there and the population has doubled up to 108000 since 1980. The growth of the Big Island is faster than ever before so the risk is much higher.
Kilauea volcano is a shield type of volcano in Hawaii and is also a neighbor to Mauna Loa. Kilauea is 1,247 meters (4,087 feet) in height which is not even close to big compared to Mauna Loa.
Kilauea, despite being of less height than Mauna Loa has already destroyed a neighboring village in 2018 and has damaged approximately 700 houses.
Talmadge Magno also added that if Kilauea is capable of damaging so much then we cannot even think what Mauna Loa which is 4,169 meters (13,680 feet) can do to the island.
Mauna Loa, oozed its lava in 1950 as well, at that time the lava of the volcano eruption traveled up to the ocean in three hours.
Mauna Loa is at unrest for a good time now which forced the scientists to think about the eruption. There is a quick rise in earthquakes too as compared to before.
