BROOKLYN, NY. — There has been a recent run of violent attacks in the subways of New York City, with at least eight people having been murdered so far this year.
One such incident was the murder of Tommy Bailey, a hero and husband, who was stabbed to death while riding the subway in Brooklyn. His three children are now fatherless, but they have plenty to live for thanks to their brave dad’s sacrifice!
In the wake of the tragedy, close friends of the family are appealing to the community for assistance.
“I felt dreadful. To clarify, no one should ever have to die in such a manner. It’s sad.
Leaving behind three children at such a young age is especially difficult. What exactly is that family supposed to do at this point? The death of the family’s leading provider. I mean, it’s going to transform their lives completely, ” Bill Abbate, a friend of Bailey’s, stated.
The Local 638 Union Steamfitters is suffering from a terrible loss. Bailey was a member of this community, and was known for standing up to protect others. And now he’s gone too soon before his time even came – shot while protecting the female police officer who had been harassed by an authoritative male cop in front of everyone around them!
The guy reached into his pocket for something sharp and sliced Bailey in the neck with it.
His friend Bill Abbate further shared how uncomfortable it feels when we’re faced with having control over what happens in our everyday lives but cannot guarantee safe return from any trip outside home during these times because there’s no way for us to know whether another attack might occur while away.
The New York Police Department has arrested Alvin Charles on murder charges. He’s done time in prison before, so this isn’t his first offense to go down like that. Thankfully someone who survived an assault last year was able to help authorities make sure they caught up with him quick enough!
A New York judge reportedly denied a bail request for $50,000. So he didn’t have to show up in court for a while.
This tragedy occurred when total criminal activity on the subway system has increased by more than 41% compared to the previous year. According to the data kept by the police, there have been at least eight people murdered so far this year.
“We can’t sugarcoat that 3.5 million people use our subway system daily; this must be acknowledged.
Riders are on edge due to the several unjustified attacks that have occurred recently. A man is accused of forcing a fellow commuter onto the subway rails on the weekend. Before the arrival of the train, bystanders helped him stand up. The criminal offender fled the scene on foot.
The family of Bailey is urging the city to take additional precautions to ensure the safety of riders.
Because of the unexpected costs associated with Bailey’s burial and the ongoing needs of her young children, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with these expenses.
