After 27 years of marriage to the Georgia Republican representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene’s husband has filed for divorce. As reported by the People, there are court documents that have been acquired confirming the same.
Perry Greene and Marjorie Taylor got married in August 1995 while they were both students at the University of Georgia. His divorce papers stated that their marriage was “irretrievably destroyed,” so he did not want to stay in wedlock.
However, the reason behind the ending of this marriage is still unclear. It is not mentioned if any one of the two of them is involved in cheating or for any other reason.
The couple has three children together, and none of them are minors, as per the filing. The petition submitted in the Georgia Superior Court of Floyd County clearly stated that Perry and Marjorie were separated earlier and stayed in a bonafide situation of separation.
According to court documents, Perry Greene, who wed the lawmaker and far-right conspiracy theorist, is moving to seal the divorce proceedings “because the parties’ strong private interest in sealing the records outweighs the public’s small interest in access to the materials.”
According to Randy Kessler, a well-known divorce attorney in Atlanta, in order to have a case sealed in Georgia, there must first be a hearing on the request. He continues, “If the parties can agree on their own, a final divorce can be granted as soon as 31 days following the date she was notified.
As reported, the representative asked for privacy as she and Perry went through the divorce process. She further added, “I am a firm believer that marriage is a good thing. Together, Perry and I established our family and had three wonderful children. Our civilization is formed by a husband and woman building a family to love and protect.”
She continued, “He gave me the best job title you can ever have: mom, and I’ll always be grateful for how wonderful a father he is to our kids.”
In a statement, Perry added that spending time with their family is the “most important thing we have done.” He said, “Marjorie has been my best friend for the past 29 years, and she’s been a wonderful mother!” We will persist in focusing on our three wonderful children, their future goals, and our relationship even while we choose different routes.
Furthermore, to safeguard the family’s privacy, Perry has asked the court to seal all current and future filings in the divorce case.
Greene first gained attention for endorsing QAnon conspiracy theories. Since then, she has spent her first term without committee assignments, fighting with coworkers, and denying any involvement on January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
There are many assumptions at the current moment regarding the official status of the divorce. Also, it is uncertain if Marjorie, who adopted Perry’s last name at the age of 21 and went by the initials MTG, will still be Rep. Greene.
