Kevin Spacey is a dearly-beloved actor who has been in the business for many years. He’s respected by his peers and loved by fans alike, but it seems that not everyone feels this way.
Star Trek: Discovery actor, Anthony Rapp, filed a lawsuit against him for millions of dollars, claiming sexual assault by Spacey at then 14 years old Rapp.
After a wild party in 1986 at Spacey’s Manhattan apartment, Rapp said that 26-year old Spacey lifted him up like he was carried over the threshold before laying down on top of him. As per his claim, Spacey tried to take him to bed, but Spacey testified in a New York courtroom Monday that he never made a sexual advance at Rapp.
Previously, in a civil trial where he accused Spacey of assault and abuse (both charges which the actor strenuously denied), Rapp testified that he wiggled out from underneath a drunk Spacey during their encounter while they were both fully dressed, fleeing across the room before finally escaping with his life.
According to Spacey, who was asked about the claims by Buzzfeed in 2017, “they are not accurate.” But after these allegations, his career quickly took a nosedive when news of this reached public domain. These allegations and others led to the immediate termination of Spacey’s participation in the critically acclaimed Netflix series “House of Cards” and effectively wrecked his career.
63-year old Spacey broke down on Monday when he testified about his formative years with the “white supremacist and Neo Nazi” father that inspired him to become an actor.
In an October 2017 interview, Spacey announced that he is gay for the first time. He noted in response to Rapp’s accusations that it had taken him years before coming out because of how personal this topic can be and said “To call someone a fraud is just guessing.”
Spacey repeated what his lawyer Jennifer Keller had said about the Upper East Side apartment in 1986 and how it wasn’t like how Rapp showed. He did this by drawing a picture that looked more like one room studio with small kitchen off to side rather than having an open living area as seen on TV show.
The bed was almost in the middle of the room. Spacey denied Rapp’s claim that he threw the Precious Son actor on the bed and tried to kiss him in a separate room by showing him the lease for the apartment.
A lawyer for Spacey, who has denied this and other sexual misconduct claims, argued that the case should be thrown out because Rapp’s legal team hadn’t been able to prove his claims.
Update: Since Rapp’s lawyers failed to prove his claims about sexual assault by the actor, Kevin Spacey is in the clear. New York jury sided with the actor and found that he did not molest Anthony Rapp when they were both younger, and has also ruled out liability for battery.
Kevin Spacey wins the $40 Million trial.
