The Venom fame actor Tom Hardy has now become an action star in real life after his amazing win in the Jiu Jitsu tournament. The 45 years old actor entered the UK Brazilian 2022 Jiu Jitsu Open Championship, which was held at Oakgrove school in Milton Keynes and organized by the Ultimate Martial Arts Championships.
As reported by The Guardian, the actor entered the tournament with his real name ‘Edward Hardy’ and dressed in a Blue Gi. This is not the first time that this Hollywood actor has made an appearance in such competitions.
The Venom actor also shared a note and image after his victory on Instagram account @tomhardy. He added the reason why he is deeply interested in representing the charity REORG and the way organizations support mental health. He further added about the therapeutic benefits of Jiu Jitsu and fitness training. He wrote, “Simple training for him is a hobby and a private love which has been fundamentally key to develop a deeper sense of inner resilience, well-being, and calm further.”
Earlier, Hardy also participated in the Jiu-Jitsu competition for the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Wolverhampton in August. This match was held to raise funds for military troops, veterans, and first responders. Hardy serves as a trustee for REORG, a nonprofit that teaches jiu-jitsu to those who have had significant injuries or are dealing with PTSD and despair.
A spokesperson of the tournament said that hosting the event was a real pleasure, and he addressed Hardy as a really nice guy. He said that the audience knows him well, and he shows his humble behavior and happily takes photographs with his fans. The spokesperson added, “It was a pleasure to watch him competing at the event.”
One of Hardy’s opponents claimed in a media interview that seeing the Academy Award nominee actor left him “totally stunned.” He further added, “I instantly recognized him.” Danny Appleby, a rival, said, “Don’t they all know who Tom Hardy is? “I was dazed and confused. And another second, he comforted me, saying, “Just carry on as usual and don’t think about me.”
Hardy is a blue belt and has been interested in mixed martial arts for many years. He is well-known for his tough man characters on screen and has acted in the successful television series Peaky Blinders as well as movies like Inception, Venom, and Dunkirk. He also received a nomination for an Academy Award for his performance in the 2015 film The Revenant.
The actor spoke about his training program for his role as a US marine who competes in a mixed martial arts competition and ultimately faces off against his estranged brother in Warrior in a 2011 interview with the Guardian.
For three months, Hardy stated, “I did two hours of boxing, two hours of jiu-jitsu, two hours of muay thai, two hours of weightlifting, and two hours of choreography every day.”
