This article provides you with a list of movies like White Chicks, which are based on the Action-Comedy genre. If you are someone who is fond of such movies, continue reading the full article for some great suggestions.
As a lover of both Comedy and Action films, movies based on action comedy are always my go-to option. What can be better than watching an action film which is so engaging that you can’t take your eyes off it?
At the same time, the film has comedy which ensures that you laugh out loud throughout the movie. Honestly, as someone who watches a lot of movies, I prefer hybrid-genre movies compared to ones with just one genre.
I guess the reason I am quite fascinated with cross-genre movies is that they take a different approach than the conventional form. But of course, the story needs to be well-articulated in this case.
Well, one such movie is the White Chicks (2004), which for me is one of the best hybrid genre movies I have watched. This Action Comedy film with terrific casting, insanely good acting, direction, and cinematography, all summed up, will make you laugh endlessly.
The movie is about two FBI agent brothers, Marcus and Kevin, who go undercover and dress up as blonde white women. Although at first, people would think it of just a comedy movie though.
However, it is more than just an action-packed comedy film. The film has layers and has subtly dealt with topics of race, class, and gender. If you have loved this timeless classic, directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, I am sure you must be looking for more movies like White Chicks to add to your Watch list.
And for this, you don’t need to worry. Because I will be helping you by providing you with a list of similar movies. Now, let’s proceed with the article with movie suggestions similar to this.
6 Movies with the Same Comedic and Creative Vibes as White Chicks
1. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1980)
This crime comedy film starring Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher, Steven Mackintosh, and Nick Moran as the lead roles was the second highest grosser in the year it was released.
One of the wittiest black comedies that you can ever watch. The plot of the story is very well put. And, of course, the director deserves a lot of praise for this.
This was the debut film of the writer and director Guy Ritchie, and he proved that he is a very clever and talented director who knows how to make a movie a masterpiece. Also, let’s not forget that this was a hybrid genre movie.
The way the characters performed their roles and each of their individuality remains intact throughout the film. Secondly, the one-liners, humor, everything was very well-timed.
You will not feel that you are watching a movie where the scenes are dialogue seems disoriented. The plot of the story is about a young and confident individual Eddy (played by Nick Moran), who loses £500,000 in a poker game.
Now, he has to pay off his debt, for which he takes the help of his friends. The movie is thrilling as well as entertaining. No wonder the movie won a lot of awards and nominations,
The film was nominated for the British Academy Film Award. It also made its place in the 100 best British films in 2016, as ranked by Empire magazine.
2. The Blues Brothers (1980)
This is one of my favorite films, and there are several reasons for the same. Firstly, let me tell you about the plot,
The story goes about as this – there are two brothers, Jake (played by John Belushi) and Elwood (played by Dan Aykroyd). They are orphans, and Jake was in prison for a while for a crime he committed. After his release, he meets his brother.
The brothers find out that the orphanage they were raised in is being closed. So they decide to raise $5,000 in order to pay the property taxes of the orphanage and prevent it from shutting down.
However, while doing so, they face a lot of odds. They make a lot of enemies that, include the police, too. The film’s plot is very simple yet very engaging.
The characters have a subplot. There is chemistry among the characters, which makes it more entertaining. The hilarious comedy, the stunts and actions, the comic timing, and the amazing performance by the cast make this a must-watch movie.
Also, not to forget the music and the cameos in this movie which makes this one of the classics. Trust me when I say this, this will be one of the most memorable comedy films you will ever watch.
3. Kick-Ass (2010)
This movie, directed by Matthew Vaughn, is the story of a normal teenager who aspires to be a real-life superhero. The teenager Dave (played by Dave Lizweski) calls himself Kick-Ass.
He joins hands with a father-daughter duo and Red Mist. They, too, like him, want to fight crime. The film has a lot of action and violence. However, even though the movie is intense, the comedy in this film balances it well.
The movie is enthralling and captivating. Although, I feel that if this movie was based only on the action genre, it would not have been up to the mark. The reason is because of the loose ends of some action scenes in the film.
However, the comedy goes well with the intensity and violence. The film also portrays that you don’t need to have special powers ot become a superhero.
Also, undoubtedly the cast of the film did their jobs well. The film was nominated for The Comedy Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and a few more.
4. Drunken Master (1978)
This is one of my favorite movies that I go back to often. Firstly, one of my favorite heroes Jackie Chan is in the movie. So if you are a Jackie Chan fan, you just cannot afford to miss this one.
This movie is a classic, and you will not regret watching this movie at all. In simple words, if I have to say, I will mention that this is a movie based on the original Kung Fu Comedy.
Let me discuss the plot with you first. The story is about Jackie Chan, who plays the role of Wong Fei-Hung in the movie. His father is a martial arts instructor who wants to train his son in martial arts.
However, Wong makes a lot of mischief and is very reluctant to learn. He keeps playing around, making fun of others, etc. Once, he hit a local’s son.
After his father is frustrated with him, he sends him to his uncle so that he is trained in martial arts and also learns self-discipline. However, his uncle has a very bizarre style of Kung Fu practice; he drinks a lot of alcohol; therefore, he is called Drunken Master.
This movie is a pure and authentic Kung Fu movie. The movie has a simple plot with no complex sub-plots. Still, it is amusing.
Be it the fighting scenes, the comedy, the characters, the screenplay, or the direction; there are very few movies that can come close to this when it comes to Kung Fu.
A well-balanced action comedy, of course, Jackie Chan takes the limelight with his comic timing and genuine acting. However, Simon Yuen, who played the role of the Drunken Master, was no less.
Even though this movie is made in 1978, it is still as entertaining as some of the best entertaining movies of the 2000s.
Huge credit goes to the director Yuen Woo-ping and, of course, the screenwriters of this film, Siao Lung and Ng See-yuen. In the year of its release, it was the second most famous film in Hong Kong.
5. Deadpool (2016)
As a die-hard Marvelian (Yeah, this is what I call myself as a Marvel fan), there was no reason that I was not gonna watch it. After all, Marvel movies never disappoint you. And I am glad I did this.
This movie stars Ryan Reynolds, and he literally nailed the role. He was all into the character, and I hardly believe that anyone else could have done justice to the character of Deadpool as he did. When you watch this movie, you will not be able to imagine anyone else except Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
This is one of the most hilarious movies you will ever watch. Full of action and thrill, this movie is a power-packed entertainer. Tim Miller, as the director, knew very well how to bring out the best in the characters. He ensured that the characters came out in a way that was appalling and entertaining to the audience.
Also, there is no denial to the fact that the writers of the movie, Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, deserve tons of appreciation, too. The jokes, appearances, references, the way the story progressed – everything was top-notch.
The plot of the movie circles around Wade Wilson, who was an ex-Special Forces Operative. However, a scientist named Ajax experiments on him, and as a result of which, his whole body is disfigured.
This experiment by the evil scientist ruined his life. But because of the mutation, he also got quick healing power. He, along with the help of some allies, hunts down the people behind this experiment in order to take his revenge.
One needs to agree that storytelling is very innovative. Usually, when one tries to use any different form of storytelling in films, there is a risk involved. What if it doesn’t go the way it was thought to? There are equal chances of the film being confusing if the storytelling format is way too complex or disorganized.
However, in this film, even though the film has flashbacks, it is not confusing. With all the action in this film, and the comedy, which makes it more watchable, the romance portrayed in the film is something that balances the film and gives it an emotional touch.
Although, the film is not entirely based on the romance genre. However, the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin is very beautiful and touching.
6. Ant-Man (2015)
This, too, is a film made by Marvel and is one of the most heart-warming comedy films to watch. The film stars Paul Rudd, who plays the role of Ant-Man (Scott Lang) in this film.
The film has a simple story which is about a thief Scott, who is released from prison. A man named Pym trains him to become Ant-Man. He gets a suit with the help of which he can shrink his size to that of an ant as and when he wants.
Besides this, he also gets multiple strengths which he has to use to fight Cross, also known by the name Yellowjacket. Cross has evil intentions, and he wants to use similar technology and powers which were able to transform Ant-Man. But he wants to use this technology for the wrong purposes.
Paul Rudd is also the co-screenwriter for this film. The film has a perfect balance of action, comedy, and emotions. Paul has given a brilliant performance and was undoubtedly the best choice for this role.
Besides, the other cast of the film, too, has done a great job. The screenplay and the visuals of this film, too, are quite good. Definitely, a film that you should add to your watchlist.
