The most controversial deal ever has now been finalized, and Elon Musk tweeted on his self-owned Twitter, “the bird is freed,” to share this news with the world. This is a huge coup for Musk, who has long been an outspoken critic of Twitter. Just last month, he called the social media platform a “cesspool” and said he was considering taking it private.
But, the tables got turned in a matter of weeks, and now Musk is the new owner of Twitter. The deal was closed at a whopping $44 billion earlier this year. This acquisition will give Musk control of a platform with more than 450 million monthly active users.
The deal is definitely a power move by Musk, who has been known to use Twitter to his advantage. In the past, he has used the platform to launch Tesla products, announce SpaceX launches, and even tease stock prices. With this purchase, he now has even more control over the narrative on Twitter.
Moments after taking control of the bluebird, Elon ousted three top officials from their position. As per sources, he has fired the CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and CLC Vijaya Gadde.
These actions by Musk are yet another example of his brash and impulsive style. Well, this style of Elon might look heroic, but it’s a reason for panic for many. Ever since the inception of this deal, advertisers have been worried about the policies Elon might lay down later.
These fears are based on how he used to criticize Twitter for being dependent on the advertisers. However, on Thursday, he made a statement where he didn’t mention any such policy and mainly focused on the issues like restriction on speech on the platform.
Musk has made it clear that he is not letting Twitter become a “hellscape” and will implement new policies that are in favor of everyone. All of these statements come after months of yes and no games where it was not even clear if Elon was going to control the company.

Furthermore, various Twitter employees have also felt this shock, and many are tweeting that they might face a layoff by Friday evening.
Without following such speculations, Musk who mostly posts one-line tweets, wrote a big paragraph to explain his reasons behind buying Twitter “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it’s crucial for the future of civilization to have a common digital town square. A place where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner.”
Elon Musk believes that there are chances of social media being divided into leftist and rightist extremisms which will ultimately generate more hate and divide society. His efforts behind each decision he makes might hint towards a response to tackling this issue and giving the world a platform that is free of hate.
All in all, the seal on this deal is a major shakeup in the tech world, and it will be really interesting to witness how Musk uses his new platform.
