Are you someone who loves watching comedy movies to lighten your mood and enjoy your time?
If you have watched Step Brothers, you must be looking for more movies like Step Brothers, correct?
I personally love comedy movies because it allows me to have family time. Well, we all need to agree that we cannot watch all kinds of movies with our parents. Especially when one has strict parents like mine.
But honestly, having belly laughs while you are with your family on your home couch, right in front of a TV, with some popcorn and nachos, and your eyes glued to the screen playing a comedy movie, I bet there can be nothing better than this.
Step Brothers (2008) is one such movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. The best part of this movie was Jim Ferrel, who played the role of Brennan. His natural comic timing proves that he is the best if he is allowed to do what he does best, that being – Comedy!
However, Reilly, as Dale, too, was phenomenal. The film delivered the message it was supposed to without having a specific dialogue for the same in one of the character’s scripts.
Not to forget the one-liners of the movie, which made this movie a cult classic. I am sure that you must have laughed hysterically at this film with a simple story and improv comedy.
The two lazy step-brothers in the film take charge in order to make everything for the sake of their parents. It does not matter how screwed up they were because of their parent’s marriage. The film portrays the importance of being a kid at heart, no matter the age.
Well, credit goes to the director of this film, Adam McKay as well. Now since you must be looking for movies similar to Step Brothers on the Internet. So, allow me to save your time as I have hand-picked the 5 best movies in this category.
So, let’s have a look at it, shall we?
1. Due Date (2010)
Okay, so I will have to admit that I decided to watch this movie for the sole reason that I am a fan girl of Robert Downey Jr., and I do not regret my decision. Also, if you see some poor reviews of this movie, do not fall into the trap.
The story revolves around Peter Highman, played by Robert Downey Jr, who comes across an aspiring actor named Ethan (played by Zach Galifianakis). He was supposed to reach Atlanta as his wife is expecting, and is soon gonna deliver his first child.
However, things take a turn after his encounter with Zach leading to troubles. Eventually, he had to make a decision to take a road trip across the country. But the road trip did not go as smoothly as expected.
The road trip comedy film is a light-hearted comedy with unusual troubles throughout the journey. Both the leading role’s characters are opposite to each other. Peter is serious and a family man, while Zach is shabby, weird, and unaware of what to do in life.
It is an adventurous movie with a hilarious screenplay that is surely going to make you laugh. The acting is on point, and we need to agree that the director Todd Phillips, also well-known for a successful hit, The Hangover, has done a tremendous job, too.
2. I Love You Man (2009)
This film which stars Paul Rudd (plays the role of Peter Klaven) and Jason Segel (plays the role of Sydney Fife), is based on the genre of romantic comedy.
It is actually a film portraying bromance between the characters. We have already witnessed the top-notch acting and the magic which Rudd and Segel bring together.
The movies like Knocked Up (2007) and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) have already proved so. The story of I Love You Man goes like this – There is a man named Peter Klaven who is a successful real estate agent. He has everything from a great career and home to a loving, beautiful girlfriend.
Peter is soon going to get married to the love of her life. However, he has been so busy with his life and career, running after success, that he has no friends. Therefore, he decides to find a best friend before his wedding.
However, if you think that this film portrays the relationship between two male friends in a sexual manner, no, this is not the case. Also, it is not about what people typically think about male friendships.
In fact, the film has done an immensely good job of portraying a healthy relationship between male friends and the importance of having such a bond. The film has subtly emphasized the fact that how important it is to have friends, too, besides a romantic relationship.
Kudos to John Hamburg, the director as well as the screenwriter of this film, for the way he has shown the distinction between adult and young friendships. This is a fun-filled where Paul finds it difficult to make friends.
However, after finding one, he becomes happier and enjoys being like a free soul with his buddy. The film has subtly dealt with sensitive topics, and the humor is not cringed. It’s an overall light-hearted, fun-filled film.
3. Stuck On You (2003)
As the film name suggests, Stuck On You, the plot is about two conjoined twins who are stuck with each other ( stuck here is not just used in the sense of their body part being joined). However, it refers to one’s aspirations too.
I personally love the screenplay, the direction, and the terrific cast. Most importantly, how through comedy, the film portrays certain harsh realities faced by the conjoined twins. You will find that most of the dialogue is said in a lighthearted manner to make it appear as a joke.
Also, the jokes are well-written to certainly make you laugh. However, it truly has depicted certain important issues faced by the twins. The story is about conjoined twins Bob Tenor and Walt Tenor, played by Matt Damon and Kraig Kinnear, respectively.
The brothers run a burger shop and live normally. They are in sync with each other and are happy. However, Walt is an extrovert, and Bob is shy and introverted. Things take a turn in their normal lives when Walt decides to pursue his dreams of becoming a Hollywood actor.
So the film shows how not just their bodies but their dreams, aspirations, and choices, too, are stuck with each other. Farrelly Brothers have done a great job in creating a charming and sweet comedy like this.
4. 21 Jump Street (2010)
As someone like me who is fond of both action and comedy films, I must admit that this was a treat to watch. This action-comedy power-packed film with a terrific storyline and impeccable acting by the cast is a must-watch film.
The plot of this film is about two cops, Moran and Greg, who need to go undercover and pretend to be high school students in order to bust a drug ring. They attend high school again only to find out that it is not the same as their times.
Both of them had to go through the anxiety teenagers usually face. The plot is interesting and freakingly hilarious. Everything about this film is good, be it the bromance, the brotherhood, the bond between the two main characters, the comic timing, etc.
After all, the film stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who are popular for their comedy roles. The director duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, well known for their animated sitcom Clone High, did not disappoint us with this film.
Also, the film also has a sequel, 22 Jump Street (2014). So, you can give this a watch too if you feel so.
5. Tommy Boy (1995)
The plot of this film is about a man named Thomas who is immature, emotional, and introverted. After the sudden demise of his father, who was an industrialist, his automobile factory went bankrupt.
Thomas’ stepmom decides to fire all the employees. However, Thomas knew how emotionally attached his father was to the employees, and therefore he tried to find ways so that someone could buy the products of the factory.
This movie is one of a kind which will make you smile because of some of the emotional moments in the film and will also make you laugh hysterically. The film, which stars Chris Fraley and David Spade, made this one of the finest comedy films with its acting.
A heartfelt, touching, and goofy comedy film, this movie is one of the classics. The chemistry between Chris and David is great, and the duo’s comic timing is on point. This timeless classic is surely a film that you can watch with your family, as the cast and the storyline are up to the mark.
The late actor, Chris Fraley, was known for her comedy roles, so one does not need to think again to watch this. Peter Segal is the director of this film, who has directed several other films like The Longest Yard, The Final Insult, etc. Moreover, Bonnie Turner and Tenny Turner are the writers of this film.
6. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)
This Sci-fi comedy with Stephen Herek as the director is one of those comedy films with an original, interesting, witty, and engaging story. The fill has an amazing cast and wonderful scenes.
The plot of this fictional comedy film is about Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves), who are high school students. The film shows that they are going to fail their history exam, a result of which Ted’s parents will send him to military school.
However, they were able to complete and submit and history presentation on time as they received help from Rufus (George Carlin), who is a traveler and is from the future. Bill and Ted use his time machine to go to different times in history. This helps them to collect facts and data, with the help of which they aced their history presentation.
Although some critics found the plot silly, we need to admit that this is a fictional movie made in 1989. This was a time when cinema was still advancing, and so were the technologies. A movie like this at that time with such an interesting plot is itself a win.
Not to forget that the movie hardly has moments that will not engage you. And, of course, the comedy which will make you laugh uncontrollably. The historical characters, especially the scenes including Napolean and Beethoven, are the funniest ones.
This is a funny and delightful comedy, and the time travel genre did not affect the comedy of this film, rather it enhanced it. The genuine acting of the cast makes the film even more watchable.
