The original remark was criticized as “a call to ignite once again another world war” by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, but Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed it proved Russia was justified in starting its action in Ukraine.
Once the translation was finished, President Zelensky also added, “they [the Russians] did their way, how it’s useful for them, and began to retranslate it in other directions.”
A few moments preceding the interview, US President Joe Biden claimed that the nation had never been so near to “Armageddon” ever since Cold War’s Cuban Missile Crisis due to Russia’s threatening to deploy nuclear weapons.
Russia’s warnings, according to President Zelensky, are a “danger for the entire humankind,” so something must be done right away. He asserted that Moscow has “taken a significant step previously” by capturing the biggest nuclear reactor in Europe, Zaporizhzhia, which President Putin is attempting to transform into Russian territory.
Even though the facility is still controlled by Ukrainian employees, he said that 500 Russian forces were present there.
“The world can stop urgently the actions of Russian occupiers,” President Zelensky said. “The world can implement the sanction package in such cases and do everything to make them leave the nuclear power plant.”
